Hybrid technology helps reduce our environmental impact

At Gradco, we are proud of our commitment to the environment – and we are always looking at new ways of reducing our environmental footprint across all aspects of our operations.

At Gradco, we are proud of our commitment to the environment – and we are always looking at new ways of reducing our environmental footprint across all aspects of our operations.

In May 2011, Gradco was one of the first two Australian companies to purchase Komatsu’s innovative Hybrid excavator, which saves up to 40% of fuel compared with a conventional excavator.

Our Komatsu Hybrid HB215LC, a 22 tonne class excavator, looks just like a standard machine, but incorporates a slew energy-regeneration system through a Komatsu-designed “Ultra Capacitor” to reduce engine load and increase fuel efficiency.

We recently asked Komatsu to compare the fuel consumption of our Hybrid, and what we would have consumed had we purchased a conventional machine instead.

In the 16 months since the machine was delivered, we saved nearly 15,000 litres of fuel.

That’s a saving of almost 40 tonnes of CO2 emissions, or nearly 300 trees.

And with many more years of productive life, we’ll continue to save fuel and reduce our carbon footprint.
